Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The crosstown rivalry resumes Friday night when the Chicago Cubs visit the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 58 degrees.

The Cubs (27-16) enter with the best record in the National League, while the White Sox (21-21) have climbed back to .500 after a slow start. Chicago’s North Side club has dropped four of its last five games, including a 4-1 loss Wednesday at Atlanta. The Cubs managed just one run on four hits in that defeat, with second baseman Nico Hoerner driving in the lone run with a single. Right-hander Edward Cabrera (3-1, 3.12 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cubs. He has not faced the White Sox this season.

The White Sox are riding a two-game winning streak after edging Kansas City 6-5 on Wednesday. Shortstop Colson Montgomery went 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI in that victory. Chicago’s South Side club will send left-hander Sean Burke (2-3, 4.50 ERA) to the mound. Burke has struggled with consistency, allowing seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels on May 6 before rebounding with a scoreless outing against San Diego on May 1.

Players to watch include Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga, who is scheduled to pitch Saturday but has been dominant recently. In his last three starts, Imanaga has posted a 0.90 ERA over 19 innings with 21 strikeouts. For the White Sox, lefty Noah Schultz has shown flashes of brilliance, including a six-inning, two-hit shutout performance at San Diego on May 1, but has been inconsistent, allowing three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings against Kansas City on Wednesday.

The Cubs have won seven of their last 10 games overall, while the White Sox have split their last 10. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Cubs victory. Chicago has been installed as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 8 runs.

Following Friday’s game, the series continues Saturday and Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Cubs then return home to host Milwaukee for a four-game series beginning Monday, while the White Sox travel to Seattle for a three-game set starting Monday.
