New York Yankees at New York Mets

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Yankees and New York Mets renew their crosstown rivalry Friday night at Citi Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and temperatures near 60 degrees.

The Yankees (27-17) enter as the surging favorite, holding a 58.7% win probability per Interstat’s ELO system. New York’s American League club has been installed as a -1.5 run favorite, with the over/under set at 7 runs. The simulator projects a 5-4 Yankees victory.

Right-hander Cam Schlittler (5-1) is scheduled to start for the Yankees, while right-hander Clay Holmes (4-3) is also listed. For the Mets (18-25), right-hander Nolan McLean gets the ball. McLean has been electric of late: he threw seven innings of three-run ball Thursday in a 9-4 win over Detroit, striking out seven. In his previous start, he allowed one run over six innings against Arizona.

The Yankees are coming off a 7-0 shutout loss Wednesday at Baltimore, but had won three of four before that. Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough, who worked three innings of one-run relief in that defeat, is a player to watch for the Yankees in a middle-relief role. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 7 2/3 innings across three appearances.

The Mets, meanwhile, have won three straight after dropping five of six. McLean (7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 7 K) was the most productive player in Thursday’s victory, with Juan Soto (.400, HR, 2 RBI) and A.J. Ewing (.500, HR, RBI) also contributing at the plate.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday at Citi Field before the Yankees return home to host Toronto for a four-game set starting Monday, while the Mets travel to Washington for a four-game series.
