Cincinnati Reds at Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians open a three-game interleague series Friday at Progressive Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m. under clear skies and temperatures expected at 53 degrees.

Cincinnati (23-21) sends left-hander Andrew Abbott (2-2, 4.10 ERA) to the mound. The Reds are coming off a 15-1 rout of the Washington Nationals on Thursday, a game in which designated hitter JJ Bleday went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Over his past 10 games, Bleday is batting .355 with four homers and 14 RBIs, providing a major spark in the middle of Cincinnati’s lineup.

Cleveland (24-21) counters with right-hander Tanner Bibee (0-5, 6.75 ERA), who is seeking his first win of the season. The Guardians took two of three from the Los Angeles Angels, capped by a 4-2 victory Wednesday. Left-hander Parker Messick (2-2, 3.86) earned the win in that game, striking out seven over 6 2/3 innings. Messick has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his five starts this season.

The Guardians have won four of their last five games, while the Reds have split their last 10. Cleveland holds a one-game lead over Cincinnati in the overall standings and has been installed as a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Guardians victory.

Following this series, Cincinnati travels to Philadelphia for three games, while Cleveland heads to Detroit for four.
