Schwarber homer sparks Phillies past Red Sox 3‑1
BOSTON (Interstat) — Jesús Luzardo delivered a dominant bounce-back start and Kyle Schwarber powered a three-run eighth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Boston Red Sox 3-1 on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Fenway Park.
Luzardo, who lasted just three innings and allowed six earned runs in his previous outing against Colorado, worked six shutout innings for the Phillies. He allowed four hits, walked none and struck out four. It was a sharp turnaround for the left-hander, who had gone 6 1/3 innings and allowed two runs in a win at Miami on May 3.
The game remained scoreless through seven innings as both starting pitchers kept the opposing lineups off balance. Boston’s Ranger Suarez matched Luzardo for much of the afternoon. Suarez went 5 1/3 innings, scattering four hits while striking out eight and not allowing an earned run.
The Phillies broke through in the eighth against Boston reliever Tyler Samaniego, who took the loss. Trea Turner opened the inning with a single to right field. Schwarber then launched a two-run home run to right field, his 18th of the season, to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.

Brandon Marsh followed with a single to center, sending Bohm to second. J.T. Realmuto was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bryson Stott then grounded a single through the left side off third baseman Caleb Durbin, scoring Bohm to make it 3-0.
Boston answered in the bottom of the inning. Andruw Monasterio led off with a double to center field. Wilyer Abreu singled to center, driving in Monasterio to cut the lead to 3-1. After Willson Contreras popped out, Ceddanne Rafaela was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Trevor Story struck out swinging to end the threat.
Brad Keller, who entered the game in the seventh, worked a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Keller improved to 2-1 on the season.
Jhoan Duran closed the game for Philadelphia, striking out three batters in a perfect ninth inning. Duran earned his seventh save of the season. He struck out Mickey Gasper looking, then retired Masataka Yoshida on a groundout and Marcelo Mayer on a called third strike. Jarren Duran struck out swinging to end the game.
The Phillies collected nine hits. Schwarber finished 1-for-5 with the home run and two RBIs. Bohm had two hits and scored a run. Stott had a hit and drove in a run. Turner had a hit and scored a run.
