Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros
HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners aim for a sixth straight win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Daikin Park, where the visiting team sends a two-pitcher combination to the mound against the struggling home club.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 77 degrees. The Mariners (19-22) hold a 3-0 victory in Monday’s series opener and have won five consecutive meetings with Houston dating to April.
Seattle lists right-hander Bryan Woo (2-2) and right-hander Tatsuya Imai (1-0) as its probable pitchers. The Astros have not announced a starter.
The Astros (16-25) have lost four of their last five games after falling 5-0 at Cincinnati on Sunday. Houston managed three hits in that contest and was shut out for the second time in three games.
Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert is a player to watch after a dominant outing Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, allowing one hit and no earned runs over six innings while striking out nine in a 2-1 loss. Gilbert also struck out nine in six innings April 17 against Texas and has 27 strikeouts over his last four appearances covering 20 1/3 innings.
Houston reliever Jayden Murray has been effective in limited work, tossing a scoreless inning Sunday against Cincinnati. The right-hander has allowed two hits over four appearances this season.
Seattle has won four of its last five games. The Mariners are 9-10 on the road. Houston is 8-12 at home.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Houston victory, but Seattle has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is 8.5 runs.
The teams continue their four-game series Wednesday. Seattle then returns home for six games against San Diego and Chicago. Houston hosts Texas for three games beginning Friday before a six-game road trip to Minnesota and the Chicago Cubs.
