Washington Nationals at Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals look to snap a two-game skid Tuesday night when they open a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 70 degrees.

Washington (19-22) has not announced which of its two probables will start. Right-hander Miles Mikolas is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA, while right-hander Brady Singer is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA. Singer has not pitched since May 5.

Cincinnati (22-19) will counter with left-hander Andrew Abbott, who is 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA. Abbott has been dominant of late, throwing 11 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings across his last two starts, including a 6-inning, five-strikeout gem Sunday in a 5-0 win over Houston.

A player to watch for Washington is right-hander Cade Cavalli. He has been inconsistent, with a 5.2-inning, two-earned-run outing in a 5-2 loss at Miami on Sunday, but he also struck out 10 over 6 innings in a 14-2 win at New York on April 29. Cavalli is 1-3 with a 4.17 ERA.

For Cincinnati, Abbott has been the staff’s anchor. After allowing five earned runs in 4 innings against Detroit on April 24, he has yielded zero runs and eight hits over 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts, striking out nine.

Washington dropped two of three in Miami over the weekend, falling 5-2 on Sunday despite Luis García Jr. going 2 for 4 with an RBI. The Nationals won the series opener 3-2 on Friday before losing 8-7 on Saturday in 10 innings.

Cincinnati took two of three from Houston, winning 3-1 on Saturday and 5-0 on Sunday after losing 10-0 on Friday. The Reds have played close games, with six of their last nine contests decided by two runs or fewer.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Washington victory. Cincinnati opened as a -1.5-run favorite on the run line, with an over/under of 9.5.

The series continues Wednesday and Thursday before both clubs return home. Washington hosts Baltimore for three, while Cincinnati visits Cleveland for three.
