Chicago Cubs at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Park, with the first-place Cubs aiming to bounce back after a 6-0 shutout loss Saturday.
Chicago (27-13) sends right-hander Jacob deGrom (2-2) to the mound. The Rangers (18-21) counter with right-hander Jack Leiter, who pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Saturday’s win, allowing three hits and striking out six. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. with clear skies and a temperature of 87 degrees.
The Cubs hold a one-game lead in the National League Central. Texas sits fourth in the American League West. The series is split after Chicago’s 7-1 victory Friday.
Cubs right-hander Ethan Roberts has been effective in two appearances against Texas this series, tossing three scoreless innings with no hits. He also threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning April 12 against Pittsburgh.
Leiter, a former top prospect, struggled in his previous four starts before Saturday, allowing 12 earned runs over 17 2/3 innings. His only other quality outing this season came April 16 at Oakland.
Chicago won five of six entering Saturday’s loss. Texas had dropped seven of nine before Leiter’s strong outing.
The Interstat game simulator projects an 8-2 Cubs victory. Texas is a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is 7.5.
Following Sunday’s game, the Cubs travel to Atlanta for a three-game series starting Tuesday. The Rangers host Arizona for three games beginning Monday.
