Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals aim for a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 2:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 72 degrees.
Left-hander Noah Cameron (2-2) will start for the Tigers, who enter play at 18-22. The Royals, at 19-21, counter with right-hander Michael Wacha, who has dominated Detroit this season.
Wacha (2-3) is coming off a seven-inning gem Saturday, limiting the Tigers to two hits and no earned runs while striking out six in a 5-1 win. He also threw seven innings in a 6-2 victory over Cleveland on May 4. Over his past two starts, Wacha has allowed two earned runs in 14 innings.
Cameron takes the mound after a six-inning outing Saturday in which he allowed three earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts, taking the loss. He threw five scoreless innings against Boston on May 4 but did not factor in the decision.
The Royals have won the first two games of this series by scores of 4-3 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday. The Tigers took two of three at home from Kansas City in mid-April.
Ty Madden, a player to watch for Detroit, started Saturday’s game and took the loss despite allowing three earned runs over six innings. He struck out five. Madden has lost his past two decisions.
For Kansas City, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and second baseman Michael Massey provided the power Saturday. Witt hit a solo home run and Massey drove in three with a homer.
The Tigers have lost four straight and six of their past seven. Their last win came May 3 against Texas. The Royals have won three of their past four.
After Sunday’s game, Detroit travels to New York for a three-game series against the Mets starting Tuesday. The Royals head to Chicago for a three-game set against the White Sox.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Royals victory.
