Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins

(Interstat) — The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at loanDepot Park, with first pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and a temperature of 92 degrees.

Washington (19-21), which has split the first two games of the set, is expected to start right-hander Sandy Alcantara (3-2). The former Marlins ace, who won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022 with Miami, will face his former club for the second time this season. Alcantara is coming off a quality start against Minnesota on May 4, in which he allowed two runs over six innings in a no-decision.

Miami (18-22) has not announced a starter for the series finale.

The Marlins rallied for an 8-7 win Saturday, with left fielder Kyle Stowers delivering a 3-for-4 performance that included a home run and two RBIs. Stowers is batting .333 over his past five games and enters Sunday’s contest as one of Miami’s most productive hitters.

Washington’s James Wood went 2-for-3 with a homer and an RBI in Saturday’s loss. The rookie outfielder has hits in four of his past five games and is batting .281 during that stretch.

The two clubs split the first two games of the series, with Washington winning 3-2 on Friday. The Nationals have won five of their past nine games overall, while Miami has won four of its past 10.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Washington 5, Miami 3. However, the ELO system gives the Marlins a 57.6 percent probability to win. Miami enters as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-1.5, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs.

Following the game, Washington travels to Cincinnati for a three-game series beginning Tuesday. Miami heads to Minnesota for a three-game set starting Tuesday.
