Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Philadelphia Phillies host the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch set for 1:35 p.m. and the forecast calling for 64-degree temperatures and clouds.

The Phillies (18-22) can take a commanding 3-1 lead in the four-game series after Saturday’s 9-3 victory. Colorado (16-24) has dropped four of its last six.

Colorado has not officially announced its starter. The club listed both right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano (3-2) and left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (3-2) as probable pitchers earlier in the series. Sugano has a 4.10 ERA, while Sánchez owns a 3.86 mark. The Phillies have not named their starter.

Philadelphia third baseman Alec Bohm is the hottest hitter in the series. In Saturday’s win, he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Bohm is batting .308 with three homers and nine RBIs. He is a key reason the Phillies have won five of their last seven.

Colorado will look to Tanner Gordon for length out of the bullpen or as a potential opener. Gordon has struggled of late, allowing two earned runs over three innings in Saturday’s loss. In his last five appearances, he has a 5.84 ERA across 17 innings, with opponents hitting .294 against him.

The series has been competitive. The Rockies won 9-7 in 11 innings on Friday, but the Phillies answered emphatically Saturday. Philadelphia won two of three at Colorado earlier this season in April.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 Phillies victory. Philadelphia is a -1.5 run-line favorite, with an over/under of 8 total runs.

Both teams face road trips after this contest. Colorado travels to Pittsburgh for three games starting Tuesday. Philadelphia heads to Boston for a three-game set beginning Tuesday.

The Phillies’ offense has shown power, but consistency remains a question. Colorado’s pitching staff, which ranks near the bottom of the National League in ERA (4.87), will need a strong outing to keep Philadelphia’s bats quiet.
