Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Houston Astros and Cincinnati Reds conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies, with temperatures near 72 degrees.

Left-hander Andrew Abbott (1-2, 4.91 ERA) is the probable starter for Houston, which enters the game at 16-24. Abbott has struggled this season, allowing 12 earned runs over his past three starts covering 15 innings. He will face a Reds lineup that ranks among National League leaders in home runs.

Cincinnati (21-19) has not announced a starter for Sunday, though it could be a bullpen game after using multiple relievers in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Astros.

The series is tied 1-1 after Houston’s 10-0 rout Friday and Cincinnati’s bounce-back victory Saturday. The Reds have a chance to win their third consecutive series after taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs earlier this week.

Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti is a player to watch after allowing one earned run in 5 2/3 innings Saturday, striking out five. Over his past five appearances, the rookie has a 1.93 ERA and has held opponents to a .202 average. He has worked at least five innings in each start.

For Cincinnati, rookie right-hander Chase Burns has been dominant, going 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA over his last five starts. He struck out seven over seven scoreless innings in a loss at Pittsburgh on May 3, and on Saturday allowed one earned run over six innings against the Astros. The 2025 first-round pick has not allowed more than two earned runs in any start this season.

Houston will look to rebound offensively after being held to one run Saturday. Shortstop Braden Shewmake homered in the loss and is batting .308 over his last seven games.

The Reds will turn to closer Pierce Johnson, who has converted 8 of 9 save opportunities, and setup man Graham Ashcraft.

Both teams open homestands after the series. Houston hosts the Seattle Mariners on Monday, while Cincinnati welcomes the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 Houston victory.
