Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Guardians
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians look to build on their early-season momentum and extend a winning streak against the Minnesota Twins when the American League Central rivals meet Saturday at Progressive Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EDT with a forecast of 53 degrees and rain.
Cleveland (21-19) enters with a 6-4 victory over Minnesota in Friday’s series opener, a game in which right-hander Parker Messick earned the win. Messick allowed one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Travis Bazzana hit a two-run homer and Tim Herrin tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
The Guardians have won five of their past seven games overall.
Right-hander Tanner Bibee (0-5, 4.82 ERA) will start for Cleveland. Bibee is still searching for his first win of the season despite a recent quality start against Tampa Bay, when he allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts on April 27. He went five innings and gave up four runs in a loss at on May 3.
Minnesota (16-23) has dropped three straight games and is 3-7 over its past 10. The Twins’ most recent win was an 11-3 victory at Washington on Tuesday.
Right-hander Joe Ryan (2-3, 3.86) gets the ball for Minnesota. Ryan took the loss in his last start, allowing three runs over five innings against Toronto on May 2.
Rookie left-hander Connor Prielipp is a player to watch for the Twins. In his most recent outing, a 4-6 loss to Toronto on May 2, Prielipp went five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. He has a 2.84 ERA over his past three starts.
The game features contrasting season trends: Cleveland’s offense ranks near the middle of the league, while Minnesota’s pitching staff has struggled with consistency. The Guardians’ bullpen, anchored by Herrin and closer Emmanuel Clase, has been a strength.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Guardians victory, with Cleveland holding a 62.4% win probability. The betting line has Minnesota as a 1.5-run favorite, with an over/under of 7.5.
Both teams have deep schedules ahead. After Saturday’s game, the Twins and Guardians conclude the series Sunday. Minnesota then returns home for a six-game homestand against Miami and Milwaukee, followed by three against Houston. Cleveland hosts the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, then welcomes Cincinnati for a weekend series before a three-game road trip at Detroit.
