Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox open a three-game series Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 53 degrees.
Seattle (18-20) sends right-hander Emerson Hancock (2-1) to the mound. He will face a White Sox lineup that has won three of its last four games. Chicago (17-20) had not announced a starter, but right-hander Sean Burke (2-2) could get the nod. The Mariners are listed as the betting favorite with a spread of minus-1.5, and the over-under is 7½ runs.
A key performer to watch for Seattle is right-hander Bryan Woo, who is coming off a dominant outing Wednesday in a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. Woo threw six scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out nine. He has been inconsistent this season, however, as evidenced by his previous start May 1 when he surrendered six earned runs in six innings in a loss to Kansas City.
For the White Sox, right-handed reliever Osvaldo Bido is a player to keep an eye on after he threw 2⅓ scoreless innings Wednesday in an 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Bido retired all seven batters he faced. Over his last five appearances, he has allowed three earned runs, three walks and struck out six in 8⅔ innings.
Seattle enters the series after taking two of three from the Braves at home. Shortstop Cole Young went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday’s victory. The Mariners have alternated wins and losses over their past six games.
Chicago dropped two of three in Anaheim to open the week. The White Sox had won four of five before that series. Their offense has shown flashes, scoring five or more runs in five of their last nine games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 final in favor of Chicago, though the organization’s ELO system gives the Mariners a 61.9 percent probability of winning.
Following this three-game set, Seattle travels to Houston for four games, while Chicago returns home to host Kansas City for three. The two clubs will meet again May 18 in Seattle.
