Gray shines in return, Red Sox blank Tigers 4‑0
DETROIT (Interstat) — Sonny Gray pitched five strong innings in his first start since straining a hamstring last month, and the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 4-0 win Wednesday night at Comerica Park.

Boston scored twice in the third on Caleb Durbin’s RBI double and Willson Contreras’ sacrifice fly. The Red Sox added two more in the fourth when Carlos Narváez reached on third baseman Colt Keith’s fielding error, scoring Masataka Yoshida and Ceddanne Rafaela.
Both teams managed four hits. Tyler Samaniego, Greg Weissert and Zack Kelly combined for four scoreless relief innings for Boston.
The game drew 17,334 and lasted 2:57. Boston improved to 16-21, while Detroit fell to 18-20.
