Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals open a four-game series Monday night at Kauffman Stadium, with left-hander Tanner Bibee (0-4, 5.12 ERA) seeking his first win of the season for the visiting Guardians.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 72 degrees.

Cleveland (18-17) enters the series following a 7-1 loss Sunday at the Athletics. Parker Messick, who will be a player to watch for the Guardians, took the loss in that game, allowing four earned runs on six hits over five innings with six strikeouts. Messick has been inconsistent this season. He won three consecutive starts from April 11-21 — including a dominant 6 2/3-inning, four-hit, zero-earned-run performance April 11 against Atlanta — but has lost his last two outings.

Kansas City (15-19) arrives on a three-game winning streak after a 4-1 victory Sunday at Seattle. Left-hander Kris Bubic, the Royals’ player to watch, earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Bubic has been stellar recently, winning his last three starts with a 1.50 ERA over 18 innings, including a seven-inning, two-hit, 11-strikeout shutout of the Chicago White Sox on April 10.

The Guardians won two of three against the Royals in Cleveland from April 6-8, outscoring Kansas City 14-7 in the series.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Royals victory. Cleveland opened as a minus-1.5 favorite, and the over/under is 8.5 runs.

The series continues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before the Guardians return home to host Minnesota on Friday. The Royals host Detroit in a three-game set beginning Friday.
