Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies conclude their four-game series Monday night at loanDepot Park, with the forecast calling for a 76-degree shower and the potential for playoff-like intensity in the National League East.
Right-hander Aaron Nola (1-3) is scheduled to start for Philadelphia (14-20), which took the series opener 6-5 on Friday before Miami answered with a 4-0 shutout Saturday. The Phillies evened the set Sunday with a 7-2 victory behind a dominant start from Jesús Luzardo, who struck out 10 over 6⅓ innings in a winning effort against his former club.
The Marlins (16-18) will counter with right-hander Janson Junk (2-2), who will look to continue a solid stretch after allowing two earned runs or fewer in three of his past four outings. Miami has won four of its last seven but has been inconsistent at the plate, scoring two or fewer runs in five of its past nine games.
Players to watch
For Philadelphia, Luzardo has been electric in his past two turns, allowing two earned runs and striking out 18 over 13⅓ innings. Though he isn’t scheduled to pitch Monday, his recent form — including a win over the Marlins on Sunday — makes him a key figure in a bullpen that could be needed if Nola struggles.
For Miami, right-hander Tyler Phillips has been effective in relief, posting a 1.69 ERA over his past five appearances (10⅔ innings) while striking out 12. He did not allow an earned run in his three-inning outing against the Phillies on Sunday.
Series history
The teams have split the first three games this weekend. Philadelphia has won two of the three, but Miami captured a 4-0 win Saturday behind a combined three-hitter. The Phillies have taken seven of the last 10 meetings overall.
By the numbers
Philadelphia is 5-16 on the road this season, while Miami is 9-7 at home. The over/under for Monday’s game is 8½ runs, with the Phillies installed as a -1½ favorite. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Marlins victory.
Up next
Philadelphia returns home to face on Tuesday, while Miami opens a four-game series against Baltimore.
