Toronto Blue Jays at Minnesota Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins open a three-game series Friday night at Target Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 47 degrees.

Toronto (14-17) enters after a 7-1 loss to Minnesota on Thursday, a defeat that dropped the Blue Jays two games below .500. The Twins (14-18) snapped a three-game losing streak with that win and sit one game behind Toronto in the American League standings.

Left-hander Patrick Corbin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Blue Jays. It will be his season debut after signing with Toronto in the offseason.

The Twins will counter with right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (0-4, 6.75 ERA), who is still searching for his first win of the season. Woods Richardson has allowed at least four runs in three of his five starts.

The teams have split four meetings this season, but Minnesota has won the last two (Interstat) — an 8-2 victory in Toronto on April 12 and Thursday’s 7-1 win at Target Field.

Toronto had won three straight before Thursday’s loss, including a sweep of Boston from April 28-29. The Blue Jays outscored the Red Sox 11-1 in those two games.

Minnesota had lost three consecutive games before Thursday, including a pair of losses to Seattle on April 28-29. The Twins managed only four runs combined in those three defeats.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is expected to start at first base for Toronto after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout Thursday. Jesús Sánchez started in right field and did not record a hit.

Bailey Ober earned the win for Minnesota on Thursday, allowing one run over six innings. Byron Buxton hit a home run and drove in two runs, while Ryan Jeffers added two hits and an RBI.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 Toronto victory. The ELO system gives the Blue Jays a 59.1% probability to win. Toronto is a -1.5 favorite, and the over/under is set at 8.5 runs.

Following Friday’s game, the teams meet again Saturday and Sunday before Toronto travels to Tampa Bay for a three-game series beginning Monday. Minnesota visits Washington for three games starting Tuesday.
