Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals
ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals open a three-game series Friday at Busch Stadium III, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. under a 60-degree forecast calling for rain.
The Dodgers (20-11) send right-hander Emmet Sheehan (2-0) to the mound. He will oppose Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore (0-1) in the opener. Los Angeles enters as the betting favorite at minus-1.5 on the run line, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Dodgers victory and gives Los Angeles a 64.4 percent win probability.
Sheehan has yet to lose this season, though he has not pitched since an April 17 start at Colorado. The Dodgers have won his two outings. Liberatore makes his second start after taking a loss (Interstat) — he allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 10-5 win at Pittsburgh despite not earning a decision in his only appearance.
Tyler Glasnow is a player to watch for Los Angeles despite not starting Friday. The right-hander has been dominant recently, winning four of his past five starts. On April 29, he took a 2-3 loss against Miami despite striking out nine over 5 2/3 innings. Five days earlier, he threw eight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-0 win at San Francisco. Over his past five outings, he has a 1.93 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.
The Dodgers are coming off a 3-2 loss Wednesday to Miami. They have lost two straight after winning four consecutive games, including a 12-4 rout of the Chicago Cubs on April 25.
St. Louis (18-13) enters on a four-game win streak after a 10-5 victory Thursday at Pittsburgh. Jordan Walker drove in three runs with a home run and two hits. Over the past five games, Walker is batting .350 with one homer and nine RBIs. In the series at Pittsburgh, the Cardinals averaged 7.5 runs per game.
The Cardinals counter with Liberatore, who has not faced the Dodgers this season. St. Louis has won five of its past six games.
After Friday’s game, the teams play Saturday and Sunday before the Dodgers travel to Houston for three games and the Cardinals host Milwaukee.
