Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers

DETROIT (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers open a three-game series Friday night at Comerica Park, with both teams hovering near .500.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. under clear skies and temperatures around 53 degrees.

Texas (15-16) sends left-hander MacKenzie Gore (2-2) to the mound. Detroit (16-16) counters with left-hander Framber Valdez, who earned the win in the Tigers’ 5-2 victory at Atlanta on Thursday, striking out eight over six innings while allowing two earned runs.

The Rangers are coming off a 3-0 shutout of the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, a player to watch for Texas, threw seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Eovaldi has been sharp in his last two starts, also tossing seven shutout innings against on April 13. Third baseman Josh Jung drove in both runs with a double in the win over New York.

The Tigers have won four of their last five games, including a series victory in Atlanta. Valdez has won three of his past four decisions, posting a 1.31 ERA over that span with 23 strikeouts and four walks in 23 innings. He threw seven strong innings in a 2-1 win over Kansas City on April 14.

Both teams are looking to gain early-season traction. Texas has lost four of its last six, while Detroit has been playing steady baseball at home.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Detroit holds a 52.3 percent probability of winning, with a projected final score of 4-3. Texas is a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is 8.5.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday. The Rangers then travel to New York to face the Yankees, while the Tigers return home to host the Boston Red Sox.
