San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies meet Thursday in the finale of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for 64 degrees and clouds.

The Giants (13-16) have lost four of their last five and were shut out 7-0 on Tuesday. They will turn to either Adrian Houser (0-3) or Andrew Painter (1-2). Houser has struggled to open the season, while Painter has shown flashes of promise.

The Phillies (10-19) have won three of their last four behind a dominant performance from left-hander Jesús Luzardo, who threw seven innings of two-hit ball with eight strikeouts in Tuesday’s win over these same Giants. He is a player to watch for Philadelphia. Over his last two starts, Luzardo has struck out 11 over 11 2/3 innings, though he allowed five runs in an April 15 loss to the Cubs.

San Francisco’s bullpen has been a bright spot, particularly left-hander Matt Gage. Over his last nine appearances, Gage has allowed one earned run over 7 1/3 innings, striking out seven. He has not allowed a run in four of his last five outings and has held the Phillies scoreless in three appearances this season.

The Giants enter on a four-game slide against the Phillies, who took two of three in San Francisco from April 6-8. Philadelphia has outscored San Francisco 17-9 in those four meetings.

PROJECTION: Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 Giants victory, but its ELO system gives the Phillies a 56.6 percent chance to win. Philadelphia is a -1.5 favorite on the run line. The over/under is 9.

UP NEXT: The Giants head to Tampa Bay for a three-game series starting Friday. The Phillies travel to Miami for a four-game set beginning Friday.
