Washington Nationals at New York Mets

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals and New York Mets will play a split doubleheader Thursday at Citi Field, with first pitch for the afternoon game at 1:10 p.m. and the nightcap set for 7:10 p.m. The forecast calls for 59 degrees and cloudy skies.

The Nationals (13-17) enter looking to salvage the finale of a four-game series after an 8-0 shutout loss Tuesday. Right-hander Miles Mikolas (0-3, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start the afternoon contest, seeking his first win. Right-hander Freddy Peralta (1-3, 4.91 ERA) is lined up for the evening game.

The Mets (10-19) are last in the NL East and have lost eight of 10. Right-hander Clay Holmes (3-2, 2.70 ERA) is expected to start one of the games. Holmes threw six scoreless innings with six strikeouts in Tuesday’s 8-0 win over Washington, allowing three hits. He also had a seven-inning shutout performance against San Francisco on April 4.

Washington’s bullpen could see significant work. Right-hander Brad Lord has made eight relief appearances, posting a 4.91 ERA. He threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings Tuesday in the Mets’ win.

Juan Soto, New York’s designated hitter, went 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs on Tuesday. The teams split the first two games of this series — the Nationals won 9-2 on Wednesday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Washington victory. The Mets are installed as minus-1.5 favorites, with the over/under set at 8.
