Miami Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers
LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Shohei Ohtani takes the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins, a pitching matchup that heavily favors the NL West leaders at Dodger Stadium.
Ohtani (2-0) has been dominant this season, complementing a lineup that leads the majors in run production. The Dodgers enter with the National League’s best record at 19-9, while the Marlins (13-15) are scuffling, having dropped four of their past five games.
Miami counters with right-hander Janson Junk (1-2), who will look to stabilize a rotation that has struggled to string together quality starts.
The Dodgers took Monday’s series opener 6-0 behind Justin Wrobleski’s six shutout innings. Wrobleski (4-0) has been nearly untouchable, posting a 0.35 ERA over his past four starts, including an eight-inning gem against the Mets on April 13. He allowed no earned runs in his past three outings combined, spanning 21 innings.
For Miami, right-hander Max Meyer has been a bright spot despite a losing record. Meyer threw five scoreless innings in his last start April 26 at San Francisco, striking out five. Over his past five outings, he has a 2.16 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 25 innings.
The Marlins’ offense has been inconsistent, scoring three or fewer runs in seven of their past 10 games. Miami managed just three hits Monday against Los Angeles pitching.
The Dodgers’ lineup is deep, with Ohtani also serving as designated hitter when not pitching. Miguel Rojas drove in two runs in the series opener.
The rivals are meeting for the second game of a three-game set, which concludes Wednesday afternoon.
Betting markets have installed Los Angeles as a -1.5 run favorite, with an over/under of 8.5. The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-3 Dodgers victory.
After this series, Miami returns home to host Philadelphia for four games starting Friday. The Dodgers hit the road for a three-game set at St. Louis beginning May 1.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
