Fried pitches Yankees past Rangers 4‑2 at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — Max Fried pitched six scoreless innings and Aaron Judge went 3-for-3 with a home run as the New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers 4-2 on Monday night at Globe Life Park.

Fried (4-1) scattered four hits, struck out five and walked none in his second consecutive strong start. The Yankees broke the game open in the third inning, scoring three runs against Rangers starter Jack Leiter. After José Caballero singled and Trent Grisham reached on an infield single, Ben Rice crushed a sinker to center field for a two-run homer, his 10th of the season. Judge followed by lining a solo shot to left field, his 11th, to make it 3-0.

New York extended the lead in the fourth when Jazz Chisholm Jr. led off with a home run to right-center field, his third of the year, pushing the advantage to 4-0.

Leiter (1-2) allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one. He was touched for the three-run third and the solo homer by Chisholm.

Texas mounted a late rally. Joc Pederson led off the seventh with a home run to left-center field off Tim Hill, cutting the deficit to 4-1. In the ninth, the Rangers scored again. With one out, Jake Burger singled off closer David Bednar and advanced to second on a groundout. After a strikeout, Josh Smith reached on a fielding error by second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., putting runners at the corners. Alejandro Osuna then singled to center, scoring Burger, but Osuna was forced out at second on a grounder by Ezequiel Duran to end the game.

Bednar earned his eighth save of the season, working the ninth inning and allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out one.

Judge finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and a walk. Rice went 1-for-4 with the homer and two RBIs. Chisholm had one hit, the solo homer, in four at-bats.
