Pittsburgh Pirates at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Pirates look to snap a two-game skid and salvage the finale of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday at Globe Life Field.
The Pirates (13-10) have dropped the first two games of the set, including a 5-1 loss on Tuesday. They will send right-hander Bubba Chandler (1-1, ERA N/A) to the mound. The Rangers (12-11) counter with veteran ace Jacob deGrom (1-0, ERA N/A), who makes his second start of the season.
DeGrom will face a Pittsburgh lineup that has managed just two runs in the series. A player to watch for the Pirates is reliever Justin Lawrence, who has been a bright spot in the bullpen. Over his last 10 appearances, Lawrence has a 2.70 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 10 innings, including a scoreless frame against Texas on Tuesday.
The Rangers will rely on right-hander Kumar Rocker, who is not scheduled to pitch but is a key figure after dominating the Pirates in Tuesday’s victory. Rocker allowed one run over six strong innings, striking out five. Texas has won three of its last four.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Pirates 5, Rangers 4. Despite that, Texas has been installed as a -1.5 favorite in sportsbooks, with an over/under of 7.5 runs.
After Thursday, the Pirates head to Milwaukee for a three-game weekend series. The Rangers will remain home to open a three-game set with the Athletics on Friday.
