Vásquez Dominates as Padres Edge Rockies in Pitchers’ Duel
DENVER (Interstat) — Randy Vásquez tossed seven scoreless innings and the San Diego Padres scratched across a lone run in the sixth to edge the Colorado Rockies 1-0 on Tuesday night at Coors Field.
Vásquez (2-0) allowed only three hits and struck out five, outpitching Colorado’s Chase Dollander, who took a hard-luck loss despite striking out nine over six innings and allowing just three hits and one run. The game’s only run scored when Manny Machado drew a bases-loaded walk from Dollander (2-2) in the sixth, plating Jake Cronenworth.
Adrian Morejon earned his first save with a perfect ninth, sealing the win before a crowd of 15,672. The game, completed in a brisk 2 hours, 27 minutes, defied Coors Field’s hitter-friendly reputation. San Diego improved to 16-7, while Colorado fell to 9-15.
