Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs look to continue their recent dominance over the struggling Philadelphia Phillies when the National League teams open a four-game series Monday at Wrigley Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 44 degrees.

The Cubs (12-9) have won four of their last five and took three of four from the Phillies last week in Philadelphia, outscoring them 35-22 in the series. Chicago is coming off a 10-inning, 2-1 win over the New York Mets on Sunday.

The Phillies (8-12) have lost five of their last six, including a 3-1 defeat to Atlanta on Saturday in which Cristopher Sánchez pitched six scoreless innings in a hard-luck loss. Philadelphia was shut out in the other two games of that series.

Philadelphia will send right-hander Colin Rea (2-0) to the mound. The Cubs counter with right-hander Javier Assad, who earned a win against the Mets last time out but was tagged for nine runs in 4 1/3 innings by these Phillies on April 13.

A player to watch for Philadelphia is Sánchez. Despite an 0-2 record, the left-hander has a 1.69 ERA over his last three starts, striking out 22 in 17 innings. He held the Cubs to two runs over six innings in a win on April 13.

For the Cubs, Assad will seek consistency. He followed his disastrous outing in Philadelphia with a strong 5 2/3-inning, one-run performance against the Mets.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Cubs 7, Phillies 2.

Following Monday’s contest, the teams will play three more games through Thursday. The Phillies then travel to Atlanta for a weekend series, while the Cubs head west to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
