Orioles Outlast Royals in 12-Inning Marathon
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — Leody Taveras hit a 12th-inning grand slam to propel the Baltimore Orioles to a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals in a wild extra-inning affair Monday night at Kauffman Stadium.
The Orioles, who managed only six hits, scored five times in the 12th, capped by Taveras’ slam off Alex Lange. The Royals answered with three in the bottom half on Nick Loftin’s three-run double but fell short. Baltimore’s Anthony Nunez earned the win in relief.
Kansas City’s Seth Lugo dazzled with seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven, but the Royals’ bullpen faltered. Attendance was 13,589. The game took 3 hours, 50 minutes.
