White Sox, Athletics Set for Series Finale in Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Chicago White Sox will look to avoid a series loss when they conclude a three-game set against the Athletics on Sunday evening at Sutter Health Park.

The Athletics (11-10) evened the series with a dramatic 7-6, 11-inning victory Saturday night. Oakland’s Nick Kurtz hit a two-run homer, and reliever Jack Perkins provided 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.

Chicago (7-14) has lost four of its last five games. In Saturday’s defeat, Andrew Benintendi homered and drove in three runs, but the bullpen could not hold a late lead.

The pitching matchup features a contrast in early-season success. The White Sox will send left-hander Noah Schultz (0-1, 4.91 ERA) to the mound. Schultz took the loss in his last outing, allowing four runs over 5 1/3 innings against Tampa Bay.

Oakland counters with left-hander Jeffrey Springs (3-0, 2.25 ERA), who has been a key to the Athletics’ winning record. Springs has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his four starts this season.

A player to watch for Chicago is right-hander Erick Fedde, who started Saturday’s game. Fedde took a no-decision, but has pitched at least five innings in four straight starts despite an 0-3 record.

For Oakland, reliever Jack Perkins will be available after his strong performance Saturday. Perkins has a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings this month, though he allowed four runs in one appearance against Texas.

According to Interstat, the Athletics are projected to win 6-2. is a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5, and the over/under is set at 9 runs.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 76 degrees.

Following the game, the Athletics open a three-game series at Seattle on Monday. The White Sox have a scheduled off-day Monday before beginning a three-game series at Arizona on Tuesday.
