Cubs Topple Mets Behind Taillon’s Strong Start, Kelly’s Pinch-Hit Blast

CHICAGO (Interstat) — Carson Kelly’s three-run, pinch-hit homer in the sixth inning propelled the Chicago Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Mark Vientos solo home run, but Ian Happ tied it for Chicago with a solo shot in the bottom half. The game remained deadlocked until Kelly connected off Freddy Peralta with two on in the sixth, driving a fly ball to left-center to put the Cubs ahead for good.

Jameson Taillon earned the win for Chicago, allowing one run and five hits over six innings. Peralta took the loss for New York. Caleb Thielbar secured the save. The Mets scored a late run on a Chicago error but could not complete the comeback. Attendance was 36,189.
