Tampa Bay Rays at Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays will look to complete a series sweep when they face the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game set Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 71 degrees.

The Rays (9-7) have taken the first two games of the series, including an 8-5 victory Tuesday and a 4-0 shutout Wednesday. They have won four of their last five.

Left-hander Steven Matz (3-0) is the probable starter for Tampa Bay. Anthony Kay (1-0) is also a consideration for the Rays. They will face a White Sox lineup that has been held to five total runs in the series.

Chicago (6-11) will counter with left-hander Noah Schultz, who took the loss Tuesday against the Rays. Schultz allowed three earned runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings in that outing.

A player to watch for Tampa Bay is Shane McClanahan, who earned the win Tuesday with five innings of two-run ball. For the White Sox, first baseman Munetaka Murakami and outfielder Everson Pereira each homered in Tuesday’s contest.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Rays 6, White Sox 3. Tampa Bay is a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5, and the over/under is set at 9 runs.

Following the game, the Rays travel to Pittsburgh for a three-game weekend series. The White Sox embark on a road trip, opening a three-game set in on Friday.
