NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels look to salvage a series split against the New York Yankees on Thursday in the finale of a four-game set at Yankee Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening under forecast cloudy skies and 86-degree temperatures.
The Angels (9-10) dropped a 5-4 decision Wednesday despite a strong start from right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, who allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Mike Trout homered in the loss. The teams have split the first three games of the series, with the Yankees winning 11-10 on Monday, the Angels winning 7-1 on Tuesday, and New York taking Wednesday’s contest.
Los Angeles will send left-hander Max Fried (2-0) to the mound. The Yankees (10-8) counter with right-hander Luis Gil.
A player to watch for the Angels is Kochanowicz, who, despite taking the loss Wednesday, has been a bright spot. Over his last three starts, he is 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA, including a 10-2 win over Cincinnati on April 10 where he allowed one run over seven innings.
For the Yankees, Gil seeks consistency. He earned a win last Friday at Tampa Bay despite allowing four runs in five innings, but in his prior start on April 5, he took a loss after yielding three runs in four innings against Miami.
The series has been tight, with two of the three games decided by one run. The Angels’ offense, which scored 10 runs Monday, was held to four hits in Tuesday’s win and four runs on Wednesday.
According to Interstat, the game simulator projects a 6-2 Angels victory. However, the same service’s ELO rating gives the Yankees a 69% probability to win. The Yankees are pregame favorites with a spread of -1.5, and the over/under is set at 9.5 runs.
Following the game, the Angels return home to open a series against the San Diego Padres on Friday. The Yankees will remain home to host the Kansas City Royals, also beginning Friday.
