Los Angeles Angels at New York Yankees
Preview of Angels at Yankees
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees will look to decide their three-game series under the threat of rain Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
The series is tied after a split of the first two dramatic contests. The Yankees (9-7) won a slugfest 11-10 on Monday, but the Angels (8-9) responded with a 6-0 shutout victory Tuesday.
Weather could be a factor, with a forecast of 77 degrees and rain at game time.
The Angels will send right-hander Luis Gil (0-1) to the mound. He will face a Yankees lineup that was silenced a day prior but features Trent Grisham, who is coming off a two-homer, five-RBI performance in Monday’s win. Grisham’s recent production has been sporadic, however, with that outburst accounting for all his hits in his last six games.
A player to watch for Los Angeles is Mike Trout. The star center fielder also homered twice and drove in five runs in Monday’s loss, highlighting a recent surge. Over his last four games, Trout is 5 for 16 with three home runs and nine RBIs.
The Yankees’ bullpen, which coughed up six runs in the final three innings Tuesday, will aim to rebound. Conversely, Angels relievers Mitch Farris and Drew Pomeranz provided scoreless outings in Monday’s narrow loss.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Angels 5, Yankees 4.
Following Wednesday’s finale, the teams have a quick turnaround, concluding the series with a Thursday afternoon game before each embarks on a new homestand. The Angels will host the San Diego Padres, while the Yankees will welcome the Kansas City Royals.
