White Sox Edge Royals in Back-and-Forth Affair

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — Colson Montgomery’s two-run homer in the fourth inning provided the decisive runs as the Chicago White Sox held off the Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.

Montgomery, who entered the game hitless in his previous 14 at-bats, went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead a White Sox offense that produced seven hits. His blast answered a three-run Royals third that had cut into an early 2-0 Chicago lead from Tanner Murray’s two-run homer in the second.

Kansas City rallied again in the fourth on RBI singles from Isaac Collins and Bobby Witt Jr., pulling within a run. The Royals’ six hits, however, were not enough. Five White Sox relievers combined for 5 1/3 scoreless innings after the fourth. Jordan Leasure earned the win and Seranthony Domínguez secured his third save.

The announced attendance was 20,552. The White Sox improved to 6-10, while the Royals fell to 7-9.
