Athletics Edge Mets 1‑0 in Pitching Duel to Complete Series Sweep
NEW YORK (Interstat) — Aaron Civale and five relievers combined on a four-hit shutout Sunday as the Athletics edged the New York Mets 1-0 at Citi Field to complete a three-game series sweep.
The game’s only run came in the third inning when Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz homered off Mets starter Freddy Peralta. That was enough support for Civale, who earned the win by scattering four hits over 5 2/3 innings. Joel Kuhnel worked a perfect ninth for his second save.
Peralta was the hard-luck loser, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six over six innings. Sean Manaea followed with three perfect innings of relief for the Mets. Each team managed only four hits total before a crowd of 37,316.
With the win, improved to 8-7. The Mets fell to 7-9.
