Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two .500 teams looking to gain an early edge in the National League West will meet Friday when the Colorado Rockies visit the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park.
The Rockies (6-6) and Padres (6-6) are coming off series wins and split the first two games of this four-game set, including a 0-0 result on Thursday. Friday’s pitching matchup features Colorado right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano (1-0) against San Diego righty Michael King.
Sugano will make his third start of 2026 seeking consistency after allowing four runs over five innings in his debut before a sharper six-inning, one-run outing his last time out. He will face a Padres lineup that scored eight runs Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
King (1-2, 3.86 ERA) has been a bright spot for San Diego, delivering a scoreless, one-hit outing over five innings against Detroit on March 27 and a quality start last time out, allowing two runs over six innings in that 8-2 win over the Pirates. Controlling a Rockies offense that has scored 40 runs in its last five games will be his challenge.
A key player for Colorado is reliever Zach Agnos, who has shown flashes of dominance mixed with volatility. He was excellent in Wednesday’s 9-1 win over Houston, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, but was tagged for four hits and two runs in just one-third of an inning two days prior.
The Rockies arrive hot, having won four of their last five, including a three-game sweep of Houston where they outscored the Astros 23-9. Catcher Hunter Goodman, who homered in Wednesday’s win, provides pop in the middle of the order.
San Diego has won five of its last seven, with second baseman Jake Cronenworth driving in two runs with a homer in Wednesday’s victory. The Padres bullpen, anchored by Mason Miller, has been effective.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects as a high-scoring affair with a predicted final of Colorado 6, San Diego 5. Despite the projection, San Diego has been installed as a -1.5 favorite. The over/under is set at 8 runs.
Following Friday’s game, the series continues Saturday and Sunday before both clubs embark on road trips.
