Cardinals Ride McGreevy’s Arm, Burleson’s Bat to Series Win Over Nationals
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Michael McGreevy delivered six strong innings and Alec Burleson drove in three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Nationals Park.
McGreevy allowed one run on four hits to earn the win, stabilizing a rotation after a rough outing last week. His performance backed an offense that scored in four separate frames. Burleson’s two-run single in the second inning provided an early lead he extended with another RBI hit in the seventh. Yohel Pozo added a two-run single in the ninth.
The Nationals managed only four hits, with their lone run scoring on a force out in the third. Miles Mikolas took the loss for Washington. Attendance was 12,686. The Cardinals improved to 7-5, while the Nationals fell to 4-8.
