Chicago Cubs at Tampa Bay Rays

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays will meet for the second straight game Tuesday at George Steinbrenner Field, with weather potentially playing a role in the interleague series.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 74 degrees and rain.

The Rays (5-5) took the series opener 6-4 on Monday. Both teams will send right-handers to the mound looking for better command. The Cubs’ Javier Assad will face Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen. Rasmussen is making his season debut after missing the 2025 season recovering from elbow surgery.

Chicago (4-6) has dropped four of its last five games. A player to watch for the Cubs is right-hander Jameson Taillon, who pitched well in Monday’s loss, allowing three earned runs over six innings. He has a 2.31 ERA over his last two starts despite an 0-2 record.

Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan is also a key figure. The left-hander earned the win Monday with a five-strikeout performance over four innings of relief. He could be available again out of the bullpen.

In Monday’s game, Matt Shaw homered for the Cubs, while Jonathan Aranda and Cedric Mullins each hit two-run homers for the Rays.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Cubs are projected for a 4-3 victory. Tampa Bay is a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs.

Following Tuesday’s contest, the teams conclude the three-game series Wednesday afternoon before both embark on homestands. The Cubs host Pittsburgh for three games starting Friday, while the Rays welcome the New York Yankees for a three-game set beginning Friday.
