Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Philadelphia Phillies look to rebound from a series loss when they open a three-game set against the struggling San Francisco Giants on Monday at Oracle Park.
The Phillies (5-4) dropped the finale of their series in Colorado 4-1 on Sunday but had won four of their previous five. They’ll send right-hander Andrew Painter (1-0) to the mound. The Giants (3-7), after being swept by the New York Mets over the weekend, counter with their ace, righty Logan Webb.
Philadelphia’s offense will rely on Adolis García, who homered in Sunday’s loss and is 9 for 34 (.265) with two home runs and four RBIs over his last nine games. His power will be tested against Webb, who is coming off a quality start despite taking the loss. On Sunday, Webb allowed one earned run over seven innings in a 5-2 defeat to the Mets.
Painter seeks to build on a strong start to his season for the Phillies. The Philadelphia bullpen, featuring Kyle Backhus and Tanner Banks who combined for two scoreless innings Sunday, has been a recent bright spot.
The Giants have lost five of their last six and were outscored 24-2 in the final two games against the Mets. Third baseman Matt Chapman, who had two hits and an RBI on Sunday, is a key part of a lineup searching for consistency.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Phillies 6, Giants 4.
Following this series, the Phillies return home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. The Giants embark on a six-game East Coast road trip starting in Baltimore on Friday.
