Kansas City Royals at Cleveland Guardians
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians, riding a three-game winning streak, will host the Kansas City Royals on Monday night at Progressive Field to open a three-game series.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 42 degrees.
The Guardians (6-4) enter after a 6-5 walk-off win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The Royals (4-5) look to rebound from an 8-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, their third defeat in four games.
Cleveland will send right-hander Tanner Bibee (0-1, 3.60 ERA) to the mound. Bibee has been sharp in two starts this season, allowing just one earned run over 11 innings with 11 strikeouts. He pitched five strong innings of one-run ball against the Cubs last time out.
Kansas City will counter with veteran right-hander Michael Wacha (0-0, 4.50 ERA), making his second start of the young season.
A player to watch for the Royals is third baseman Maikel Garcia. He is coming off a powerful performance Sunday, going 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Over his last seven games, Garcia is batting .333 (10 for 30) with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs.
For the Guardians, left-handed pitcher Parker Messick has emerged as a key arm out of the bullpen. In two appearances covering 11 innings, he has allowed just one earned run while striking out 11. He earned the win in relief Sunday.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Guardians 7, Royals 6. Cleveland has been installed as a -1.5 run favorite, with an over/under of 7.5 runs.
This series continues Tuesday and Wednesday in Cleveland before the Royals return home to face the Chicago White Sox. The Guardians will embark on a six-game road trip to Atlanta and St. Louis following this series.
