St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers

Tigers, Cardinals Set for Rubber Match in Detroit

DETROIT (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals, both sitting at .500, will decide their three-game series Sunday at Comerica Park.

The Tigers (4-4) have taken the first two contests, including an 11-6 victory Saturday powered by a trio of three-RBI performances. They will send veteran right-hander Justin Verlander (0-1, 4.50 ERA) to the mound. The Cardinals (4-4) will counter with righty Kyle Leahy (0-1, 5.79 ERA).

Verlander, 43, seeks his first win of 2026 after a loss in his season debut. He faces a St. Louis lineup looking to rebound after being shut out Friday and surrendering a six-run lead Saturday.

A key for the Cardinals will be right fielder Jordan Walker, who drove in five runs in Saturday’s loss, including a three-run homer. He is 4 for 8 with a home run and five RBIs in the series after an 0-for-10 skid.

For Detroit, utilityman Zach McKinstry has been productive, going 3 for 8 with a home run and three RBIs in the series. He homered in Saturday’s win.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Tigers are projected to win 5-4. Detroit is a pregame favorite of 1.5 runs, and the over/under is set at 8.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature around 55 degrees.

Following the game, the Cardinals travel to Washington for a three-game set beginning Monday. The Tigers open a four-game series in Minnesota on Monday.
