BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (Interstat) — Steven Matz dominated over six innings and the Tampa Bay Rays capitalized on a big second inning to beat the Minnesota Twins 7-1 on Saturday at Target Field.

Matz (2-0) allowed one unearned run on two hits, striking out eight. The Rays scored three times in the second off loser Mick Abel (0-2), highlighted by Jonathan Aranda’s two-run double. Yandy Díaz added a run-scoring triple among his two RBIs.

Tampa Bay’s 10-hit attack provided ample support as Cole Sulser and Mason Englert finished the three-hitter. The Twins’ lone run scored on a second-inning error. Attendance was 15,256. Both teams are now 3-5.
