Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Interstat) — A marquee pitching matchup highlights the opener of a four-game series between the Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night at Chase Field.

Left-hander Chris Sale (2-0, 0.75 ERA) is set to start for the Braves (4-2) against Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen (1-1, 3.00 ERA). Both aces are coming off dominant performances in Wednesday victories.

Sale was brilliant in a 5-1 win over Oakland, allowing one hit and one earned run over six innings with three strikeouts. In his first start, he threw six shutout innings against Kansas City. He has surrendered just four hits in 12 innings this season.

Gallen countered with six shutout innings of four-hit ball in a 1-0 win over Detroit on Wednesday. He struggled in his season debut, allowing four runs in four innings in a loss at Los Angeles.

The Braves have won four of their last five, including taking two of three from the Athletics. Catcher Drake Baldwin drove in four runs in Wednesday’s win.

Arizona (3-3) salvaged a series split with Detroit behind Gallen and a solo home run from Corbin Carroll. The Diamondbacks opened the season by dropping two of three at Dodger Stadium.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Braves victory. Atlanta is a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5, and the over/under is set at 8.5 runs.

The series continues through Sunday before both teams embark on road trips. Atlanta visits the Los Angeles Angels next, while Arizona travels to face the New York Mets.
