San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two teams seeking an early spark will meet Wednesday afternoon when the San Francisco Giants visit the San Diego Padres in the finale of a three-game series at PETCO Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with a temperature around 70 degrees.

Both National League West clubs enter with identical 1-3 records. The series is tied after a Padres 2-0 win on Tuesday followed a Giants 3-2 victory on Monday.

The Giants will send right-hander Adrian Houser to the mound. Houser did not pitch in Monday’s win. San Diego will counter with right-hander Nick Pivetta (0-1).

A player to watch for San Francisco is right-hander Landen Roupp, who delivered six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in Monday’s victory. For the Padres, reliever Ron Marinaccio has been effective, tossing two hitless innings in the same game.

In Monday’s contest, Casey Schmitt drove in a run for the Giants, while Jackson Merrill hit a two-run homer for San Diego.

According to Interstat, the projection model favors the Padres with a predicted final score of 7-2. San Diego is a pregame favorite of 1.5 runs, and the over/under is set at 8.

Following the series, the Giants return home to open a four-game set with the New York Mets on Thursday. The Padres embark on a road trip, starting a three-game series at the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
