New York Mets at St. Louis Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — Two early-season National League contenders with identical records will meet Tuesday when the New York Mets visit the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 78 degrees.

Both clubs enter with 2-1 records after splitting their opening series. The Mets took the first game of this set, 4-2, on Monday. New York is coming off a 4-3, 10-inning loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday, while St. Louis fell 11-7 to Tampa Bay the same day.

The pitching matchup features Mets right-hander Kodai Senga against Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante. Both starters are seeking their first decisions of the young season.

A player to watch for New York is Nolan McLean, who delivered a strong outing in Sunday’s loss, allowing two earned runs over five innings with eight strikeouts. For St. Louis, right fielder Jordan Walker is off to a hot start, going 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in Sunday’s defeat.

Despite the Mets’ victory Monday, projections offer a mixed outlook. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 6-5 Cardinals win. However, the same outlet’s ELO system gives the Mets a 53.7% probability of victory. Betting markets list New York as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 8.5 runs.

Following Tuesday’s contest, the teams conclude their three-game series Wednesday before both embark on road trips. The Mets head to San Francisco for a four-game series starting Thursday, while the Cardinals travel to Detroit for a three-game set beginning Friday.
