Astros, Red Sox Continue Series After Opening Day Shutout

HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox look to generate offense Tuesday night when they meet at Daikin Park after a combined seven-hit shutout duel in the season series opener.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT.

Both clubs are searching for consistency early in the 2026 campaign. The Astros (2-2) evened their record with a 9-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The Red Sox (1-2) have dropped two straight one-run games, including a 2-3 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday.

The pitching matchup features right-handers looking for their first win. Houston’s Hunter Brown (0-0) gets the start against Boston’s Brayan Bello (0-0).

A player to watch for Boston is left-hander Connelly Early, who delivered a strong outing in a tough-luck loss Sunday. He allowed one earned run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out six in a 2-3 defeat to the Reds. Offensively, outfielder Wilyer Abreu powered the Red Sox in that game, going 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.

For Houston, reliever AJ Blubaugh has been a bright spot in the bullpen. He threw two perfect innings with two strikeouts in Sunday’s victory over the Angels. Over his last two appearances, he has allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings while striking out five.

The Astros took the opening game of this four-game series 1-0 on Monday in a contest where both teams struggled to find timely hits.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tuesday’s contest is projected to be another close one, with a predicted final score of Astros 4, Red Sox 3.

Following Wednesday’s series finale, the Red Sox will head home to Fenway Park to open a series against the San Diego Padres on Friday. The Astros will embark on a seven-game road trip, starting with a three-game set against the Athletics in on Friday.
