Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals will look to build on their best start in recent years when they face the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series.

The Nationals (2-1) opened their season by taking three of four from the Chicago Cubs, including a 7-0 victory over the Phillies in Monday’s series opener. Philadelphia (1-2) seeks to rebound after dropping two of three at home to the Texas Rangers to begin the year.

Washington will send right-hander Andrew Painter to the mound. The Phillies will counter with left-hander Jesús Luzardo, who is looking to improve after a tough debut. Luzardo took the loss Sunday against Texas, allowing six earned runs on six hits over six innings while striking out seven.

A key matchup will feature Luzardo against red-hot Nationals outfielder Joey Wiemer. Wiemer is 6 for 6 to start the season with two home runs and four RBIs. He went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs in Sunday’s 6-3 win at Chicago.

The Nationals’ offense erupted for seven runs on 10 hits in Monday’s shutout win. The Phillies’ bats, meanwhile, were held to just three hits.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 66 degrees.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Nationals 5, Phillies 4.

Following the series, the Nationals will host the Los Angeles Dodgers for three games beginning Friday. The Phillies will embark on a six-game road trip to Colorado and San Francisco.
