Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs

Preview: Nationals at Cubs, Sunday, March 29, 2026

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs will look to break a season-opening split when they conclude a three-game series at Wrigley Field on Sunday.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 45 degrees.

Both clubs enter with 1-1 records after trading blowout victories. The Cubs evened the series with a 10-2 win on Saturday behind a strong outing from rookie Cade Horton and home runs from Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya. Washington won the opener 10-4 on Thursday.

The series finale features a pitching rematch from Saturday, though not between starters. Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin is the probable pitcher for Sunday. He will face Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga. Both pitchers’ season records were not provided.

A player to watch for Washington is right-hander Miles Mikolas, who took the loss Saturday after allowing four earned runs over five innings. For the Cubs, Horton is coming off a win where he held the Nationals to two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Nationals are projected to win Sunday’s contest 5-1.

Following the game, the Nationals travel to Philadelphia for a three-game set starting Monday. The Cubs will remain at home to begin a series against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.
