Tigers, Padres Set for Game 3 After Rainout

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres will conclude their season-opening series Saturday at PETCO Park after Friday’s scheduled game was postponed by rain.

First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with a temperature around 71 degrees.

The Tigers (1-0) will send right-hander Jack Flaherty to the mound. The Padres (0-1), looking to even the series, will counter with righty Randy Vásquez. Both pitchers’ season records were not specified.

Detroit opened its season with an 8-2 victory on Thursday. Tarik Skubal dominated in that win, allowing three hits over six scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Kevin McGonigle went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, and Dillon Dingler added a two-run homer.

San Diego’s bullpen provided a bright spot in the loss. Bradgley Rodriguez struck out three over two perfect innings of relief, followed by scoreless outings from David Morgan and Wandy Peralta.

The series opener represents the only game played by either team so far this season.

Projections for the contest offer a split decision. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 3-2 Tigers victory. However, the same outlet’s ELO rating system gives the Padres a 57.7% probability to win. Betting markets list Detroit as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 8 total runs.

Following the game, the Tigers will travel to Arizona for a three-game set starting Monday. The Padres will remain at home to begin a series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday.
