Preview:
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals look to secure a series win against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field after a decisive opening-day victory.
The Nationals (1-0) overpowered the Cubs 10-4 on Thursday behind a strong offensive showing. Rookie third baseman Brady House, a player to watch, launched a two-run homer in that contest. Joey Wiemer went 3-for-3 with a home run, while Washington’s bullpen combined for 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
Chicago (0-1) seeks to even the series and its record. First baseman Michael Busch provided a bright spot in the opener, collecting three hits and an RBI.
Veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas is slated to start for Washington against Cubs’ righty Cade Horton. Both pitchers will be making their 2026 season debuts.
Despite the Cubs being installed as pregame favorites with a -1.5 spread, Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 Washington victory. The over/under is set at 9.5 runs.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 40s.
Up Next:
The series concludes Sunday before Washington travels to Philadelphia for a three-game set starting Monday. The Cubs will host the Los Angeles Angels for three games beginning Monday.
