Los Angeles Angels at Houston Astros

HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Houston Astros look to avoid a three-game sweep and secure their first win of the young season when they host the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday at Daikin Park.

The Angels (1-0) have opened the 2026 campaign with consecutive shutout victories over the Astros (0-1), including a 3-0 win Thursday and a 5-2 triumph Friday. Houston’s offense has managed just two total runs through the series’ first 18 innings.

Saturday’s pitching matchup features a pair of left-handers. The Angels will send Reid Detmers to the mound. The Astros counter with Cristian Javier. Both pitchers’ season records were not specified.

A player to watch for Los Angeles is right-hander José Soriano, who dominated in Thursday’s series opener. Soriano tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. For Houston, right-hander Hunter Brown turned in a strong outing in a hard-luck loss that same game, fanning nine Angels over 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

Angels star Mike Trout launched a home run in Thursday’s victory, providing all the offense needed behind Soriano’s gem.

Despite the early results, projections heavily favor the Astros to break through. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 1-0 Houston victory, and its ELO rating system gives the Astros a 65.3% probability to win. Houston has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under for the contest is set at 8.5 runs.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit.

Following Sunday’s series finale, the Angels will head to Chicago for a three-game set against the Cubs beginning Monday. The Astros will remain home to welcome the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series starting Monday.
